  Host a party with everyone you know (neighbors, friends, semi friends) if you have kids use the school directory and go down the list of people – just saying what you are doing – (in a mass mailing) host the party too if you wanted. Or have a friend do it for you – (or just send out the mailing)!
  Advertise in a small local paper.
  Go around your neighborhood and place a flyer on the side of the mail boxes (not in them).
  Post things at a library, gym, local grocery store.
  Link your web site (on google)
  Or have a blog.

  My mom has been doing a home business for 12 years. She does amazing business. She is always really busy (too busy!!!). She says her best advertising is through word of mouth, but she also advertises on the back of the church bulliton (sp?), has business cards that she carries with her and displays in our front hallway (many customers take several to give away!), and she also has magnets and pens with her name, address, and phone number on them. She also has her name in the phone book toward the front (alterations by ms. Mary). that way she’ll be one of the first seen. these are just a few ideas.

  It largely depends on what kind of business you have, BUT word-of-mouth is the best free advertising you can get for most businesses. Print cards (there are affordable or even free ones online) and give them to all your friends and family. Every time you make a sale, be sure to follow up with your satisfied customers and request referrals! Get everyone you have ever met marketing for you. Good luck and best success!

  Do you have a library nearby? Check out the book, “Marketing without Money” by Nicholas E Bade. The book presents 300 tips for advertising with little or no cash outlay. The best way and the cheapest is to get others to talk for you. Be the best at what you do and others will come to you.
