One of the important reasons is the failure to REACH to the people who will sue the product/service. Even after reaching those people, one has to be able to convince them to use it. A newbie should ensure he/she will be able to get enough clients in the first few months of the biz. Also, a 'personal' touch like calling people etc, rather than just mailing/faxing them. Also, most importantly, ensure that the quality of the product/service is good, and get that message across to prospective clients. More than one reason for the failure.
